The "Day Off" refers to the day of REST that God, the father of our spirits, has scheduled for Himself, and us.. You see, in Gen 2:2 God tells us what His schedule was, and is, and would remain to be:
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.Do you recall Jesus accusing the theologians of taking away key bits of information that would have helped the people understand Gods principles?
"Woe to you experts in the law, because you have taken away the key to knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were entering." Luke 11:52
There are many such "keys to understanding" as we will go over in some detail elsewhere, but the one I will concentrate on at the moment is:
"For a thousand years in your sight are like a day..." Psa 90:4
And confirmed in
2 Pet 3:8 "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. "
How long is God's "day"?
It's what we call "One Thousand Years"...
So now count with me for a moment - from now back to Jesus is almost 2,000 years, or 2 "days", right? Then according to Jesus' lineage, Adam's mortality (or his booting out of Eden) was almost exactly 4,000 years before Jesus, or 4 "days". So let's add it up.. 2 days, plus 4 days = 6 days.
Humm, seems like we're coming to the END of that 6 day "work week" described in Gen 2:2, eh?
In other words, it has been approximately 5,998 years since Adam and Eve were escorted out of the garden beautiful. At 6,000, according to Gods calendar, He will transition into His Day Of Rest...
6 days of work, then he rests for a day...
The first thing we MUST ASK ourselves is "does it fit in with the rules that we previously set down?
a: is it biblical
b: logical (to a 10-year-old)
c: follow the "patterns" set down by God
d: are in line with WHO WE KNOW God to be (i.e.: a loving Father...)
I think most will agree that the answer is yes, it fits..
You may recall some verses that detail the starkly different life on earth during this millennial kingdom. Such verses as
Isa 11:6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
We can discuss what life will be like during that time, to some degree, on a future occasion. For now I would like to point out a number of points of interest in this "key point"..
Have you ever heard that God works according to patterns? He is not really very impulsive. He does things according to the patterns that He laid out all throughout the Old Testament, often portraying the pattern as the characters that we read about.
Heb 8:5
They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on The mountain."Rom 1:20
For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been Clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
So let me ask you this.. If here on earth we work 6 days, then take a day to rest (to re-attune with God), and then go back to work, then what do you think they do in heaven? Work one week and then take ALL OF ETERNITY OFF...???
he, he, he. I can just hear what my dad woulda' said if I told him I wanted to work one week, then take the rest of my lifetime off... He would have called me a LAZY BUM, then sent me BACK TO WORK!!!!
This is where traditional orthodoxy 'breaks down' very quickly. In the spotlight of Gods word, and once freed of "the lying pen of the scribes who handled it falsely" , we begin to see a whole different story... a story about a LOVING FATHER who is patient with ALL HIS CHILDREN - not a monstrous, vengeful beast who is so rushed that in as little as 12 to 16 years (depending on how you understand the "age of accountability"), he will, without hesitation condemn the vast majority of His little children to burn torturously time without end. Of course the other reality is that according to Gods way of counting time (one thousand years = one day), a 70 year old on earth would equate to about 1hour and 40 minutes on His scales - 1,000 divided by 24 x 70. One hour and forty minutes doesn't seem like very much time to make such an important decision...
Furthermore, this monster is either so weak that he can't do a darn thing about it, or worse, he REFUSES to do anything about it, making him the most grotesque, hellish being that could be "thought up" during the middle of the long, dark night.
"But His JUSTICE!!" - You wail, defending your orthodoxy...
"WOE TO YOU LAWYERS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TAKEN AWAY THE KEY TO KNOWLEDGE ...)"
You tell me, Lawyer, of God's many attributes; which are we supposed to be imitating or following?

Mt 22:36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
Jesus replied: "`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Why? Why did "the gospel" get changed? Why do we hear "He loves you" out of one side of the mouth, and "His judgement is gonna get you" out of the other side?
Simple. TO SCARE YOU AND YOUR MONEY into the churches protection, so that the church can 'relieve you of your burden of sin (and money)'. You see, those wise fellows back in the early years of Babylon mixing and consuming the church of Christ, they saw that LOVE was too SLOW of a process to bring the carnal people into obedience and "holiness". They very cleverly soon realized that FEAR is a much QUICKER ferment for the masses, right in line with what they knew Christ to want for his church on earth.. DOMINION AND POWER! Right?
They soon realized that FEAR carefully and strategically placed would constitute their goose, laying the golden eggs... Year in and year out, FEAR and his twin brother - GUILT - could be called upon to hatch yet another generous bounty for the lord and his work... Isaiah 30:12 Because you have rejected this message, relied on oppression and depended on deceit, this sin (your orthodoxy) will become for you like a high wall, cracked and bulging, that collapses suddenly, in an instant.
This entire section of Isaiah is talking about OUR TIME RIGHT NOW!!! It is dealing with the transition period between Gods workweek and His day of rest. The bible frequently refers to this period as the "great tribulation". This "sudden collapse" refers to the collapse of the entire religious, governmental, medical, educational, & financial institutions that man has built and is so proud of.
At this point it would appear as if the y2k computer problem is one of the primary "tools" that the Lord will use to transition from the rule of stupid man to that of His government here on earth.
If you would like to read a "prophecy scenario" of the imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ that is:
1- biblical. no creed, no axes to grind, no denominations to answer to. Just what the book says "here a little, there a little"
2 - has NO holes & NO gaps (UNlike the pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib, etc.)
3 - you have NEVER HEARD BEFORE (they don't allow THIS in the bookstores)
4 - it makes sense by following the principles and patterns that He has already established.
